Q&A: Natural hair with a busy schedule

on Twitter asks:

hey, I have a question how to stick with a healthy routine on having healthy natural hair with a busy schedule.....
This question certainly applies to my situation right now since I have been working crazy hours at my job as well as in the process with moving, which is why I have been neglecting the blog lately. For the past couple of weeks, my routine has been very simple;
  • I wash my hair once a week, and since I dont have time to sit under my dryer to deep condition my hair, I just wash my hair right when I get in the shower, then I apply conditioner to my hair and let it steam under a shower cap while I perform my shower rituals, so it gets about 15 mins of steaming time before I detangle and rinse with cool water.
  • next I moisturize and seal
  • then I brush my hair into a bun and put on a satin scarf
  • each night I just rebrush my bun to neaten it up and put my scarf back on before going to sleep
  • the bun pretty much lasts all week!

So that is pretty much what I have been doing and it works great with my busy schedule, for those who can not bun their hair due to length, Im sure you can do a similar thing with a puff. But if you dont like a bun or puff, you can opt for twists. When I was in school, I would sometimes put my hair in twists and leave them in twists for a week, then when it was the weekend, I would unravel the twists for a twist out. The twists are a great option, because it allows you to wear the twists in different styles throughout the week. And you can even cowash with the twists still in.

So to make a long story short, find a style that will last at least a week (bun, twists, etc.), and find one day in the week, where you can dedicate the time to wash, detangle and style your hair, and keep your hair like that for as long as it lasts or until your ready to wash again. Just remember to moisturize and seal as needed throughout the week and protect your hair when you go to sleep. Its as simple as that! And if all else fails, you can always wig/weave it up!!!!

My 1 year Curliversary Giveaway sponsored by Seisyn Jewelry!!!

Hey Lovelies!

A month from today marks my 1 year anniversary of rocking my hair in its natural state. So to celebrate I will be hosting a giveaway from Seisyn Jewelry. I would like to thank all my readers for the support and tips throughout my journey. And according to, Seisyn is a variation of the word, season and their definition of the word season reminds me of my natural hair journey. I encourage you all to visit the website and read the "About Seisyn" section and see how it relates to your experience.

Read below for some info on Seisyn and how you can win some of their beautiful pieces!

What is the inspiration Behind Seisyn?
Natives of Chicago, we LaNaye and LaToya, have partnered in ownership of Seisyn since 2003. Initially beginning as a creative pastime, we officially launched our company professionally after receiving much public appeal in the Baltimore area during our undergraduate matriculation at Morgan State University.  We have always had big dreams fueled by equally strong amounts of talent and passion. This has enabled Seisyn’s distribution in several boutiques in Chicago, as well as a featured spot during New York Fashion Week 2009. Through Seisyn’s distinctively matchless product line we offer a tailored experience in jewelry that is never duplicated. Both of our inspiration to create wearable art comes from the desire to promote the freedom in women to be bold, uninhibited, and take risks. It is always our goal to continue to increase the visibility of our brand, so we expanded to include a children’s line and are anticipating a global expansion via our website in 2011.

What makes Seisyn different from other jewelry lines?
She is the fun, funky, fashionista. She is ageless and colorless-her only concern is style that differentiates her from every other woman. She rejects normality but when forced upon her she makes it her own. She is a woman that never goes unnoticed. She is comfortable and confident in her own image & identity, and when she’s not it goes unnoticed. People look to her to set the bar…she is the trend setter but never follows the trend. She is constantly renewing herself.  To call her “ideal” is an understatement.

How do you want ladies to feel when they wear your jewelry?
Within every woman exists a certain freedom that is waiting, wanting to be exposed. Some are willing and unafraid to operate from that place, some need permission to liberate our creative niche.  Seisyn is the catalyst! Women should not feel inhibited in our sense of artistic physical expression. Be fun, colorful, different, courageous, bold, beautiful…be you! We invite you to explore & expose the woman in you that is free, your highest self. Crafting hand beaded jewelry that elicits autonomy is our pleasure. Seisyn: Experience, Femininity, Evolve…

The Blogs I Love

Thursday, July 14, 2011

Hey all!

Just wanted to give you an update since I have been slacking on this blog. My last quarter of school was extremely busy and towards the end I was overwhelmed with school, work, my sorority, preparing for graduation and moving  which resulted in me neglecting my blog. Now that I have graduated and moved out, I have not really had internet access and my life is kind of all over the place right now, which makes it hard for me to blog. Also, since I have a sew in right now, I can't really blog on my natural hair. So please bear with me right now, as I am trying to get it together. But I do have a lots of reviews in store for you all, so stay tuned!

My little sisters twistout

my lil sis crying at my graduation (this is how her hair usually looks)

On Friday I put my little sister's hair in flat twists since I left for the weekend, I told her to unravel her hair before she goes out to wear her hair in a twistout.
I wish I took a picture of the flat twists, b/c they actually looked kind of cute. But I had just did too layers of flat twists. 4 were in the back, then I did a diagonal side part on the top layer and I did about 4 on each side. I moisturized her hair with Mixed Chicks Leave in Conditioner, then used gel for hold.. Once I was done, I pulled her hair in a low bun, and then tied her hair down with a scarf. She took the twists down today but left one flat twist in the front.
Since Im not with my sister, she texted my pix of the results, so its not the best quality. BTW, my sister has been natural her whole life, but she usually wears it straightened or pulled back in a bun. So this would be the first time she wears her hair out and curly.
