Heat Free Blow Out

You may remember me mentioning in past posts about how I do a heat free blow out to stretch my hair. Well below I is a video where I show the process and the benefit of doing it.

OOTD: Memorial Day Edition

Since Memorial Day is here, I can finally wear white again! So I decided to pull out my white linen pants that a bought last year from Forever 21, but never wore. But for some reason there was a stain on my pants, so I ended up just wearing some ripped jeans with my American Apparel bodysuit, fedora and wedges.

My Heat Damaged hair

So in case you did not know, I am fully natural and I have NEVER had a relaxer. Buuuuutttttttt....I have severe heat damage from blow drying, pressing and flat ironing my hair regularly. And I want my curls back, which is why I have started my healthy hair journey, which includes no direct heat. In my previous post I discussed how my heat damaged hair is ruining all my natural hair styles and causing breakage. I realized that there is not many pix on my blog which show my heat damage hair up close and personal LOL. So I have compiled some pix to share with you. Each comparison pic is at different times, but the side by side pix are just a comparison of the left side of my head and the right side of my head at the same time. The left side of my hair is the side that is extremely damaged and also shorter and where I experience the most breakage, The right side is the less damaged side which you usually see on my blog posts.

In this comparison pic, my hair has air dried with no product and no styling, this is how my hair looks when it dries naturally and I dont do anything to it

New plans for my hair

So during my healthy journey, I have been trying many different styles that don't require heat. Most of the time, the styles don't come out how I envisioned them. Also, I am noticing a lot of breakage, or maybe its shedding IDK, but there is lots of hair in my combs after detangling. Maybe its average...but IDK what average looks like, I know its about 100 strands, but I cant tell by looking how many strands it is.  Anywho, I think these problems are due to my heat damaged ends. Most of my heat damage is on the left side of my head, the hair on that side of my head is also shorter. I have no idea why. But many times while styling I get the urge to just chop of those ugly, straggly ends. But I'm pretty sure I will regret if afterwards, b/c if I cut off my ends, I wont be able to put my hair in a bun, which is my go to style. So to resolve this problem I have decided to put a weave in my hair. My plan is to put my hair in a sew in weave for 3 months, when I take it out I will get a roller set and get my ends trimmed, then after a couple weeks I will put my hair back in a weave. I plan to do this for a year. which means I will get my hair in a weave 3-4 times. By this time next year I expect to have grown out all my heat damaged ends, and my trims should have cut them all away by that time. I plan to get my weave installed next week, which is perfect for Memorial Day weekend, b/c now I wont have to worry about styling my natural hair. Also, 2 weeks from then will be my graduation, so Ill probably go get my hair done again that weekend, after that I will most likely style my hair on my own. I just purchased my hair online from Sundara, it is a black owned company that sells virgin Remy Indian hair. I have never used hair from this company, but I saw a couple of good reviews, and I like that it is black owned and the prices are great as well. In the past I always purchased my hair from Pauline's Human Hair which I am able to get locally. Pauline's has great customer service, but their hair is really expensive. Well this post is getting long, but I will update you all on my weave and my natural hair!

I need your opinion

So I have been on the hunt for a cute, affordable nude pump. I narrowed it down to these 4. Which one is your fave, and why?

Today' hair

Yesterday was wash day, so that evening I washed my hair with Giovanni 50:50 shampoo, then DC'd with Bee Mine Deep Conditioner. I dried my hair with a cotton t-shirt, then I put my hair in 6 sections. I applied Bee Mine moisturizer to each section then detangled with my Ouidad Double Detangler. After detangling I braided up the section. After detangling my whole head, I went through each section and used the cold setting on my blow dryer to stretch my hair using the cold air and my Denman brush. After that I put my hair in 6 flat twists using Bee Mine Curly Butter. I put wrapped the ends of the twists into bantu knots. I let me hair air dry over night. Today I applied Jojoba oil to my hair, unraveled the twists, fluffed to get rid of the parts, then through on a headband before heading out the door. This was a quick and easy style. The whole process last night from shampooing to the last twist only took about an hour and a half. Last time I used Bee Mine products I didnt really like it, but today my hair feels soft and looks shiny, so I like it a lot more this time.

I had to go outside, so I just through a hat over it

so much shrinkage!

Laser Hair Removal Update

OK, this post is a little overdue. I have 2 different updates!

On  4/27 I went to a new laser center called Touch of Class Medspa & Laser Center. This center uses a different laser, called the LightSheerHS. This laser 22 x 35 mm spot and does like a vacuum suction and then the laser is applied. I treated my underarms and "happy trail". The whole process only took like 5 mins. This laser was a little more painful to me because it had like a burning sensation, but it was so quick that it didnt really matter. I didn't have a scabbing or flaking. I just had a little irritation under on of my arms, but it went away after a day. I havent noticed much difference in my hair, but I purchased 6 treatments for each area, so I have 5 more treatments to go, so I hope its all gone by then. After the treatment I just applied Aloe Vera Gel to my skin.

On 5/2 I went to my usual laser center and I had my legs and bikini area treated again. This time, the nurse used the setting where the laser shoots out cold air instead of cold water and it helped take away from the feeling of the laser. This treatment was virtually painless, I guess since the hair is thinner now, it hurts less. The hair on the bottom half of my leg seems mostly gone, but the hair on my thighs seems mostly the same. I am assuming the hair on my thigh is harder to get rid of since the hair is thinner than the hair on the bottom half of my legs. The hair in my bikini area is noticeable thinner, but not yet completely gone. I only purchased 3 treatments for my legs, so now I am trying to decide if I want to pay for more. I purchased 5 for my bikini, so I still have 2 to go, and I am hoping its done by then...if not, I will probably do 6 more treatments at the other laser center.

Product Review: Curlformers

Since I did a tutorial on Curlformers, its only right that I review them as well! Check out the vid below.

What I talked about in the vid:
-I have used the Curlformers @ least 5 times, so I feel that I have enough experience to review them
-I own the Salon Kit from Sally's which contains 40 long & wide and 6 short & wide and 1 hook for $59.99
-I also own 2 packs of the long & narrow which was $12 each @ Sally's and there are 8 in each pack
-So as you can see, Curlformers are expensive!
- But, it is worth it to me, because I always get a good set and I dont have to worry about it not coming out right like I do with other styles
-But I have a hard time getting the style to last more than a day, but this past time I did, and I made a post about it
-If I could do it all over again, I would have purchased a kit off of curlformers.com because the kits come in a handy plastic zip up case, instead of the box from Sally's. Also, the kit only has one size in it, which is better for me since I have no use for the short curlformers because they are too short for my hair. Also, I would have purchased the extra long curlformers because my hair is almost too long for the long curlformers, once my hair grows a couple more inches ,my hair will be too long
-the curlformers seem to be safe for my hair, because I havent seen any broken hairs in the curlformers or on the hooks
-My hair usually dries pretty quickly since the curlformers are like a mesh material, I usually air dry over night, but you can also sit under a hooded dryer w/o worrying about them melting

I want to...

This is random, but I think I want to do a black rinse/cellophane on my hair. In the past I have done reds and burgundy rinses. And then I started to do clear rinse on my hair for shine. But lately my hair has been looking kind of light, so I think I wanna do a black rinse, b/c I love the way black shiny hair looks. What do you think? Have you ever done a rinse?

I will most likely go purchase the Adore brand, b/c its the brand I have used in the past.

I finally got 2nd day hair with Curlformers!!!

Yesterday my chapter hosted a scholarship pageant, so I wanted to make sure my hair looked nice, so on Wednesday night I set my hair in Curlformers. And while doing so I created a tutorial!!! Check it out below.

Here is a pic of me and my hair at the pageant:

my chapter with the winner (im the tall one on the end LOL)

Today I actually achieved 2nd day hair!!!! But since my chapter is having a party tonight, and I dont want to wear my hair out, because it will get all poofy in a room full of sweaty college kids LOL. So I reluctantly put my hair in my trusty bun, because I know it can survive the humidity. But I was so happy that I had 2nd day hair, I played with it and put it in different styles before I cowashed the style away...

Bun with a Twist

Hey! So the last time I posted about my hair (Monday)  I showed you my Flat Twist Out. Well as usual I did NOT get 2nd day hair. :( So I put my hair in my usual go to style...a bun. But this time I did my bun with a little twist...literally. To protect my edges from constantly slicking my hair in a bun, I put 2 flat twists at my hair line. I wore my hair like this for 2 days and I didnt have to retwist the next day!

Blogger Down

OMG, was I the only one going crazy while Blogger wasn't working?!! Or was it just not working on my computer? Anyways, since I couldnt blog, I Vlogged instead! So I will post on that, but also, check out my Youtube Channel in the meantime!

Flat twist out

After 3 weeks, I finally washed my flat ironed hair. I washed with Mixed Chicks Shampoo, and to restore my hair from the heat I used Aphogee 2 min protein treatment. Then to restore the moisture I used Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner. I rinsed my hair with cool water. At first I attempted to do a roller set, but I didnt have the correct pins for the rollers, so I stopped and did flat twists instead. I put my hair in 8 flat twists and secured the ends with flexi rods. I used Mixed Chicks Leave In conditioner and ORS Lock & Twist Gel. The next morning I applied Mixed Chicks Hair Silk to my hair and unraveled the twists. After a little fluffing, I decided to wear my hair in a side part. The back was a little frizzy and undefined, because I did the middle twists really loose and sloppy and they didnt completely dry

Below is a video of me doing my hair
