Twist Out using Dax Pomade

Sunday night I put my hair in 10 flat twists using Dax Pomade. Before putting the pomade on my hair, I first moisturized it using Jane Carter Revitalizing Leave In Conditoner. I also put flexirods on the ends of the twists. And I slept with a satin bonnet. The twists were done on my old roller set hair that I blogged about in a previous post.

The next day I took out the flexirods but kepts the twists in, put on a hat and went to work. When I got off work I took down the twists. I was NOT impressed with the results, but I kind of expected a fail.

That night I didnt do anything to my hair. When I woke up my hair felt hard and greasy.

I am still willing to give Dax another try but next time on either wet hair or very moisturized blow dried hair. The roller set made my twist out too flat. And I need more moisture underneath the Dax

Bantu Knot out on Roller Set hair

Since my roller set failed, I decided to try bantu knots on them. I put my hair in 16 bantu knots. I 2 strand twist each knot and used an ouchless rubber band for extra hold on each knot. I used Doris New York Olive Oil Cream on each knot in hopes of it providing some definition.

the rubber bands I used

The next morning some of the knots had unraveled, leaving sections uncurled.
this is how it looked when I took out the knots
this is how it looked after fluffing
I used my curling wand to fix those sections since I did not have time to reset them on bantu knots.
after fixing it up a bit

Since I was going to work I pinned all may hair up and then let it loose when I went out after work.

Since it was looking a little crazy when I let my hair down, I smoothed my hair over to one side and held it in place with bobby pins.

This style actually made it through the night.
seemed to hold up well in the humid bar...and my bestie is natural too!

When I got home I put my hair in 5 bantu knots with no product.
hoping for 2nd day hair

When I unraveled the 5 knots, I actually liked my hair better than the day before.
day 2: unraveled bantu knots

day 2: fluffed out

Too bad I had to go to work where I have to wear a hat with my hair pulled back.
day 2: after work

That night I put my hair in 5 bantu knots again. I wasn't really concerned about how my hair would come out though since I knew I would have to wear a hat again at work. But I took pix for you all anyways :)

day 3: before work
(excuse the mean mug...i wasnt feeling well)

day 3: after work

Inspiring video

This video literally brought me to tears. This little girl is so inspiring. It reminded me to be thankful for the little things and to always have faith!

Ponytail Rollerset

So as mentioned in a previous post, I needed to rewash my hair and DC. So on Tuesday night I took my hair out of my bun, to see that it was matted and tangled, I literally had dreads in my hair. I think that is due to the fact that I washed my hair in twists and I don't think that style of washing works for me, I need to go back to detangling in the shower, pre-detangling doesn't work for me. So I spent for ever carefully detangling my hair before getting in the shower. I then washed my hair with Mixed Chicks Shampoo, then I applied ApHogee 2 min Reconstructor and put a shower cap on while performing my shower rituals. After rinsing that out, I got out the shower and applied Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner and put a shower cap back on. I left that on for awhile as I was doing stuff around the house. Then I detangled my hair with my shower comb. Once detangled, I rinsed it out and applied Mixed Chicks Leave In Conditioner. Next I put my hair in 7 ponytails.

Then I put about 2 rollers in each ponytail.
The next morning I was in a rush and my roots were still wet. So I took out the ponytails, sprayed some heat protectant and blew out my roots using the tension method.
I don't know what I was looking at?!

And since I was in a rush and my hair looked crazy, I just threw it in a messy bun. When I got home I sprayed my hair with more heat protectant and flat ironed the perimeter of my hair, so that my edges would be smooth. Then I put my hair in 5 sections and ran the flat iron over it, just to warm the hair up and put a flexirod on each section after warming up the hair in hopes of the heat helping the hair set, since I didnt want to add any product to my hair. The next morning my hair looked okay but not great, so it put it back in my trusty bun.

Stay tuned to see my bantu knot out on roller set hair...

Carol's Daughter Macadamia Hold & Control Smoother vs Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Edge Control

I have been wanting to try Carol's Daughter Macadamia Hold & Control Smoother but the $22 price tag has kept me from trying it. But I looked up the ingredients and compared it to my beloved Organic Root Stimulator Edge Control and the ingredients are nearly identical! ORS Edge Control is only $4.99 and can easily be purchased at most BSS, Walgreen's, etc. The only negative to the Edge Control is that it contains Parabens, but that honestly doesn't bother me. Another differeince is the main oil used in the product, Macademia vs Olive. Check out the comparison below.

It’s a smooth-style essential. Forget sticky pomades, crunchy gels and heavy waxes! This frizz-fighting gel-pomade-wax combo, made with super ingredient Macadamia Oil, provides amazingly long-lasting hold without any sticky, greasy, or flaky mess. It instantly eliminates wild, unruly hair that sticks out and threatens to sabotage your slicked-back styles, polished ponytails, or tapered cuts. Really, it does just about everything!
